  • Edgewise: Omg stay warm, everybody!  ;__;
    November 19, 2014, 01:00:04 PM
  • Ingrid: Maybe when they were kids XD
    October 19, 2014, 12:15:33 PM
  • Alyss: Phoebe wouldn't want Vaness to feel bad either, though, or dress up as something she really, really would rather not wear. Rapunzel and Sleeping Beauty have pretty dresses, so she'd be perfectly happy going as one of them. ^_^ (And the puppy dog eyes may end up on Roi to go as Flynn. XD)
    October 17, 2014, 01:04:57 PM
  • Alyss: She does - complete with a little bottom lip wibble. ^^;
    October 17, 2014, 12:59:37 PM
  • Ingrid: I bet Phoebe has the best puppy eyes
    October 17, 2014, 10:40:58 AM
  • Ingrid: Oh no ;_; Now Vaness feels bad
    October 17, 2014, 10:40:49 AM
  • Alyss: Phoebe would probably go as Rapunzel or Sleeping Beauty since they are both "hidden" princesses like her. (But only because Vaness probably won't go as Elsa to her Anna. XD)
    October 17, 2014, 10:35:10 AM
  • Brenna: Phia will dress as a butterfly, because its the last thing anyone will see coming out of the world's biggest tomboy.
    October 14, 2014, 10:54:38 PM
  • Brenna: Doc Lamya would go as the Ghost of Breakfasts Yet To Come, with a bacon and eggs print shroud.
    October 14, 2014, 10:53:31 PM
  • Ru: That is so awesome.  :D
    October 14, 2014, 06:06:48 PM
  • Pixie: Kivan would go as Liberace XD
    October 14, 2014, 05:50:22 AM
  • Ru: Kit I think might be a total geek and dress up as some historical figure her dad taught her about.  And then be a little confused that no one knows who she is.
    October 13, 2014, 06:52:34 PM
  • Ru: Hmm, I think Seren might go as a zombie, just to confuse the hell out of people.  She'd play it totally straight, and people would STILL find her attractive.
    October 13, 2014, 06:50:57 PM
  • Ingrid: Vaness goes as Flame Princess because of all the Elsa jokes
    October 13, 2014, 01:51:42 PM
  • Pixie: Pwyll would perversely go as his sister XD
    October 13, 2014, 07:05:13 AM
  • Brenna: Autumn Question Times! Cast Masquerade/Trick or Treating! What/Who/When is your character going as?

  • Ru: Excellent, okay!  <3
    October 06, 2014, 06:36:01 PM
  • Brenna: Triso probably did. Seraita wasn't strong enough to swim, so she mostly waded.
    October 01, 2014, 01:59:40 PM
  • Ru: HEY so just a little question - for those of you with Lost Kids, do your kids know how to swim?
    September 25, 2014, 06:10:07 PM
  • Ingrid: Thank you <3

    September 15, 2014, 01:47:31 PM
  • Ingrid: Okay, mind if I improvise?
    September 15, 2014, 01:46:04 PM
  • Alyss: And I've been trying to find a good flower for Phoebe. I've come up with a few (white rose, lily of the valley, magnolia, etc), but haven't settled on one yet.
    September 15, 2014, 01:02:17 PM
  • Alyss: Pretty! :)

Because costuming for Coppelias is entertaining, and because I promised Brenna:

Why yes I do look like a zeppelin stewardess

Yes, my wings & goggles don't match. And yes, I am thick everywhere.

Photographer requested that I get my groove on.

Later in the day I got talked into modeling a corset....

It was surprisingly comfy, but I still ain't buying one <3

Not shown here: the vendor from whom I wanted to buy a cool, steampunkish hi-low skirt. Because she did not attend this year; I'll have to get the skirt from her etsy shop.  :-\

Day two, I dressed up real good before breakfast, looked in the mirror, and realized I hated the whole look & didn't want to spill breakfast on it, anyway. So I wore this instead:

Went a little more butch. Ugh, my blacks clash

Fig. 2: Oakland booty, vanilla flavor. And yes, I have the same bun bow/clip in both red and black.

Not sure what was happening here, but we may have been downwind of the grilled-onion hotdog vendors.

Not pictured here: me in the Day 1 costume, flipping the bird & making grotty faces at Arcadian rebel scum. Saving those for potential dating profile purposes.  ;)

Mmm, I love me some Lindsey Stirling.  <3  It's a good fight song too!

That does make me wonder, do we have a planet/region that can do a Western-inspired theme yet?  Because if not, we've gotta get a moon out there or something that's Western-inspired so we can have bar fights and high noon shootouts.  XD  And awesome hats for everyone!

Srsly guys, if I ever walk up to you and start babbling about various celebrities, you can put a bullet in my head, 'cuz that's a pod person.  Failure at popular media is one of my distinguishing characteristics.   :-\
Navigational Display / Coppelias: Cherubim
« Last post by Edgewise on June 28, 2014, 08:11:47 PM »
Cherubim are absolutely the fastest things on two legs.  They're generally smaller than the Elohim, and closer in size to average human heights; their strength, while superhuman, is less than an Eloi's because their power is focused more on speed than on strength.*  Unfortunately their outstanding speed makes them more vulnerable to overheating than any other type of Coppelia.

Cherubim are also characterized by their cleats; their formal footwear is also cleated, and the public speculates their hypothetical bunny slippers would also bear cleats.  Like the Seraphim, much of their weaponry can be built-in: fangs, claws, talons, retractable metal fingernails, assorted small blades, and occasionally even horns.  Cherubim weaponry that isn't sharp in some way is exceedingly rare.  Spurs are not favored, however, because they add weight to the feet, and can trip up a runner.

These Coppelia are the bad cops.  Specifically, they are The Bad Cops: the force that makes the KGB look like Barney Fife.  Cherubim have no Good-Cop/Bad-Cop routine; they have edited the strategy to Bad-Cop/Worst-Nightmare.  They learn very quickly to get respect and results through physical viciousness, but to win promotion they have to learn a much more subtle kind of nastiness.  Cheubim have an unspoken code regarding violence among themselves: it is absolutely forbidden in public, and in front of other types of Coppelia; but in private, for excellent reasons, and especially when it's easiest to conceal, conditions are somewhat less strict.

Although they have the worst public image and a reputation for being difficult, no records exist of a Cherubim having ever attacked another type of Coppelia.  Either it has never happened, or the incidents have been expunged.  Individual Cherubs working with Seraphs or Elohim must be evaluated case by case, because there is no reliable means for predicting Cherub sociability.

Additionally, the public impression of Cherubim is subconsciously that of a pack-hunting predator--somehow a solitary Cherub is considered significantly more approachable than a pair or a group.

*Because they have essentially the same actuators, a Cherub in a pinch can express the brute power of an Eloi by running as hard & fast as she can at her target, but because her frame is much lighter, she risks breaking apart on impact.

The Gazelle
The long-distance track star.  Not the fastest, but able to go much farther than other models before overheating.  Unless you're an experienced marathoner, she will catch you.  Usually the tallest Cherub model, but not always.

Think: supermodels, shoujo manga heroines, greyhounds, giraffes.

The Cheetah
Absolutely the fastest: the Cheetah model is supposedly capable of reaching speeds up to 100mph, although this result is heavily contested.  Being able to reach higher speeds than other Cherubim, however, means she can overheat much faster, so it's common practice for a Cheetah to take a running leap in an attempt to tackle her quarry, rather than burn out and lose it.

Think: Olympic sprinters, champion twerkers, zebras... & again, I am too het to know offhand of celebrities with rockin' booties.  ^^;

The Vixen
This lightweight model is the only one designed with parkour in mind.  She can go places even the Greta can't, and very quickly.  Althought the Vixen lacks the weight to accelerate like a Cheetah, the same approximate strength gives her the greatest high jump and long jump of any Coppelia.  Sometimes mistaken for a Sylph.

Think: ninjas, foxes-?  ...Honestly, I don't know anyone in the entire world with this physique.  I'm certain there is someone, but the rest of you are more likely to know her than I.  sorry

"She did it! Oh! My! Gosh! She totally did it! He has to be some kind of incognito super musician and Miri lured him in with her violin like a siren or something. You owe me half your tips, Ozra," Livette declared practically quivering with excitement.

"Just because he has a guitar and is wearing a hood doesn't mean the guy is famous. It might just mean he's cold. Don't you remember the creeper with the shiny suit - that you swore was a director from Psyche - who turned out to be a used hovercraft salesman? ... Besides, you only get my tips if he signs you or introduces you to a producer. And Miri should get some too since she gave you your big break." Realizing that Livette was too busy preening by using a tea kettle as a mirror to listen, Ozra rolled her eyes for the fifth time that night and tugged on the blonde's apron. "Let's get this over with so I can say I told you so."

As the girls passed Mirielle, even she could pick up on Livette's anticipation through the haze of her playing. She carefully keyed in to her friend's emotions and eased them into her wordless song, transitioning the tune from her own memories to that of Livette's ever present desire to become famous. That was much safer territory than her own thoughts.

Ozra inclined her head as they approached the new customer, then smirked when she identified the tune Mirielle had shifted into playing: a version of Livette's song that she normally played during her customer roulette sequence. Except somehow it sounded even perkier than normal. A quick glance at Livette told her the blonde was too enamored with the "famous musician" to notice just yet. "Don't mind her," Ozra greeted the newcomer, jerking a thumb in her co-worker's direction. "She doesn't bite, but she may ask for an autograph. Or a contract."

"Oz~z~z~ra!" Livette exclaimed, tripling the syllables in protest. "I am not that uncouth." The now hush! was left unsaid, but her bright blue eyes spoke volumes. Turning her full attention back to their customer, she beamed up at him, trying her best to get a good look at his face from underneath his scarf. "Please allow me to introduce myself: I'm Livette and this is Ozra," she added, nodding her head to the brunette standing next to her. "We'd be happy to help you. Is there anything we can do? Would you like a seat? Some tea or coffee?" Would you please take your bloody scarf off so I can see you? Livette really, really wanted to ask that one but she bit her tongue only because it would prove Ozra's point if she said it aloud.

Both the girl and the acolyte looked at her with varying degrees of surprise.  The girl's was more akin to even more profound bewilderment at the new addition to her predicament, while the acolyte's more resembled shock at Mirelle;s boldness.  After all, she had inserted herself into what he must have thought to be a proper and necessary dressing down in the face of blasphemy.  Still, Mirelle's words and her bright nature seemed to give him pause, and he looked about, seeming to notice for the first time the crowd that had gathered.  After a couple of blustery noises, he managed to tone down the color of his face from violent purple to outraged puce.

The girl's gaze flicked back and forth between Mirelle and the acolyte, as if she were sizing up the situation and possibly drawing conclusions to what Mirelle was doing.  "I...uh...yes..." she ventured, her voice uncertain, her gaze continually darting back to Mirelle as she spoke,  "I just arrived today, actually.  I hope you can forgive me.  If I had known this area's significance, I wouldn't have been so callous."

The acolyte seemed to consider this statement a moment, cleared his throat, and said, "Well, I suppose it is possible that the spirits may be able to forgive a transgression inflicted by someone unfamiliar with the ways of the Crimson Crescent, especially one from a less educated world.  After all, it was the Malus, the Great Sage of the Rose, who said to pardon those who come from Outside, and seek to elevate them to enlightenment."

There was a soft murmur through the crowd.  The acolyte's face color managed to downgrade more into the bright red category as he seemed to slip into prosthelytizing mode. He turned to address Mirelle.  "Tell me, do you understand the significance of this garden?"

For a moment, nothing seemed to happen to the angel on the table.  Then, as if awakening from a deep sleep, her chest softly rose as color melted into her cheeks.  As with the other angels, she was designed to perfectly mimic a human, from breath to the blinking of her eyes.  From an offline state, the effect was startling - as if she had been awoken from death by the kiss of a fairy tale prince.  She took a deeper breath and her eyes fluttered open, a deep indigo fitting her designation.  After a short period of blankness, she focused on her Queen, and a smile blossomed over her face in recognition, rich and promising.

"My Queen," she said, her voice soft and deep.  Like her body, it seemed to delicately straddle the line between the masculine and the feminine.  There was pleasant surprise, but no questioning or doubt in her tone, as if she had never thought for a moment that the procedure would have been anything but successful.  "You do me honor with your presence.  I had not anticipated you would be present at my awakening."
